The music on DATA ranges from the noise ambiences of Mario de Vega’s “Fuka” to the vocal-driven abstract breaks on Jack’s son’s “True Trouble”. Exploring the vast palette of electronic sounds, the musicians featured on DATA fear no glitch, no noise or electronic effect to the service of intriguing soundscapes. Sometimes subtle and minimalist (Israel M’s “Directriz”), other times symphonic (Cardex’s epic “22 años solo”) or melodious (Antena’s “Centro” and Broadband Star’s “Slow Fight to Urano”), the compilation faithfully portraits the many faces of the current electronic experimental scene in Mexico. From the suffocating darkness of Denizen’s “The Many Colored Beast” to the mutant progressions on Abduct’s “Dosis” and Hz’s “Sweet Porno”, all the way to the retro-futurism of MHV’s “101”, every piece delivers a glimpse into the original directions Mexican electronic music is currently pursuing. Like previous Konfort compilations, this one is organized to take the listener into a progressive trip from seemingly unstructured sounds to beat-driven sound collages. The beat drops heavy on So Simple’s “NGC 5253”, twisting itself into complex knots that suddenly come apart on Bifidus’ “Hum”, only to reappear in the abstract structure of Emmerichk’s “Neuro”. The music is perfectly accompanied by the work of Mexican visual artists Alejandro Villalobos, Daniel Quintero and Arturo Gil, and a philosophical essay by Mexican philosopher Axel Barceló.
Recomendable y escencial.
